The word 'byblos' originates from the Greek language
and means 'paper' or 'papyrus'.
Byblos is also the name of an ancient
city in Lebanon.
Lebanon is unique among world countries in being at the crossroads of 3 continents: Africa,
Asia
and Europe. The city of Byblos is located on the Mediterranean Sea, in the lee of Mount Lebanon, and has a moderate
climate
and
beautiful scenery.
In its long history, Byblos has attracted many famous conquerors including
Ramses II,
Sargon,
Darius, Alexander the Great, the Caesars, Salahuddin, Tamerlane, Hulaghy Khan and Napoleon. For thousands of years,
these important historical figures left their
imprint on this fascinating city.
